I bought this book on friday and finished it that same day. It is officially the best book I have ever read. It is, without a doubt, my absolute favorite. I could totally relate to it, especially being a softball/baseball player and fanatic and being heavily recruited by colleges. Not only that but alot of the feelings/situations (aside from the relationship with his teacher) the main charachter josh goes through are situations that everyone 17 year old goes through... (family issues, friend issues, girl/relationship issues etc.) I would definitly recommend this book. SUCH A GREAT STORY!!!!

OMG! when i saw this book in the libary, i snatched it right away. when i finished reading in 2 days, my hands started to shake, really when josh and eve are togther, i was afarid i was going to flicker, like back to when i had, my first kiss. I browwed the book because i read fanboy and goth girl, which was interesting, no the naked part.

The new cover wasn't my decision -- my publisher wanted to try something new. The old one is still on the hardcover, though.

The apple is there because Eve's a teacher AND because her name is Eve. :)

just finished the book-awesome story, so good!! i saw the cover and immediately wanted to know what it was about. duh to the person who didn't get the cover. it reallly looks cool, not gay, not like you're embarassed to carry it around (i saw the other cover, looked like the movie CHICAGO. dumb.) this story is one of the best ones i've read.

boy toy censorship
By: Anita on Tue March 24, 2009, 16:24:53
i just read the article in the school library journal about self-censorship and it was discussing how many adults and librarians just loved this book but ultimately decided not to include it in their collections. the book didn't cause a huge stir because it just wasn't getting out to its age-group.

i'm a young adult librarian and i have to say it never even occurred to me not to add this book to my collection. yes, the subject matter is sensitive, but out of the three books i've read dealing with this topic (prey by lurlene mcdaniel, something happened by greg logsted, and boy toy) this book is by far the most sophisticated and well-written. the characters have depth and the relationship between the teacher and student isn't rushed into so that it seems creepy right from the beginning. instead the whole relationship starts off extremely innocent and then escalates. both the student and teacher characters are so well developed that they are real people and the reader can empathize with both. while the subject matter is extremely scary, i enjoyed this book and it's barely sat on the shelf at all since i ordered it. it gets circulated constantly.

Boy Toy is one of my favorite books. When I read it, I was like wow, this is one of the best books ever. I like the new cover, but I like the old cover better because there is just something about it that is screaming read me read me. Love his books. I just got done reading Hero-Type a few days ago and I loved it. The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Gothgirl was great too.

Book Review
By: Drew on Mon June 01, 2009, 14:57:41
Recently was at Children’s hospital Oakland where the publisher donated a bunch of copies to them! I was with my daughter during her MRI and I started to read the book! I was amazed at how far I had gotten in so little time! I had decided to purchase the book, but the hospital staff seen me reading it and told me to have it! And to let my daughters read it after me!!!! Well, she is only 11 so it will be some time… Having a 13 year old and already being protective over him I would love for him to read the book but I am a little scared because the details and stuff! I read the book in four days! I’m not a big reader so when I find a book I like it must be good!

@Drew: Glad you liked the book! And yeah -- you know your son best, so hold off on letting him read it if you think that's the best.
